What is an Expert Witness Report? The expert witness usually provides a written report (although, sometimes it is an oral report) which includes his opinions about the matter which he examined and analyzed. The main purpose of the expert report is for the expert witness to express his expert opinion. This expert opinion should be written in a clear, confident and supportable manner - stating the opinion and the reasoning behind it. In addition, the expert report must contain all documentation and information considered in the process of forming such opinion; including a list of all exhibits, photographs, diagrams, publications, and resources used to support it. All documents reviewed by the expert witness in consideration of the matter/case must be cited, regardless as to whether or not he relies on said documents in the process of preparing his expert report. An expert witness report should also contain a list of publications authored by the expert witness and the details of the basic qualification, education, training, and experience of the expert witness.
